Framework Thursday: Leadership is a Journey, Not a Destination

Leadership isn't a straight line.

It's a continuous journey of learning, adapting, and growing.

Over the years, as a principal, district leader, leadership coach, and facilitator, I've learned that meaningful growth doesn't happen by simply pushing harder. It happens when we intentionally create space to pause, reflect, and make thoughtful choices about how we move forward.

That's why I developed the Sabbaticalize Framework.

Rather than viewing renewal as something we earn after burnout, the framework invites us to make renewal part of how we lead.

It includes five interconnected phases:

Pause: Create space to slow down and become present.

Reflect: Examine your experiences, values, and patterns with curiosity.

Realign: Reconnect your daily actions with your purpose and priorities.

Reimagine: Envision new possibilities for yourself, your team, and your organization.

Re-enter: Return with renewed clarity, intention, and purpose.

The journey isn't linear. We move through these phases again and again as we grow, face new challenges, and step into new seasons of leadership.

This week, I invite you to consider:

Which phase of the framework do you find yourself in right now?

I'd love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Pause. Reflect. Realign. Reimagine. Re-enter.
